Do people honestly think driving a race car is easy?

Cause this looks super easy. Worst part is, it gets to me every single time. I can't prove them wrong because they have never experienced it. It isn't like a sport like soccer or something where most people have at least tried it. I guess people just assume driving a race car is like driving normally but faster. . . they know nothing.

so I've raced in Lemons 5 times. Amature racing all the way. You get out of the car after an hour and a half and your are exhausted. Not just physically, but mentally. Try focusing on something to an hour and a half. Really focusing. It wears y

Depends on what "racing" you're talking about. If you're just talking about driving as fast as you can on a closed circuit (time trials, hill climbs, rally, etc) then it's easy. Easy until you drive to/over your limits and spin out/crash. Finding your limits and learning how to regain control takes practice to do it well consistently.

Racing wheel-to-wheel is a much different experience, and I would say much more difficult. It's no longer about taking each corner perfectly, it's about passing and blocking your competition, and making sure you don't crash into them (too hard). You don't need the fastest lap, you just need to be ahead of everybody. Now you're driving in traffic, constantly aware of everybody around you and trying to predict what they are going to do as you're either trying to keep them behind your or get in front of them. Wheel-to-wheel adds a whole new level of complexity.
